I had just placed my order at Nandos and returned to my table when I saw this man on a bench with an irresistibly cute schnauzer just outside the restaurant’s glass doors. I mulled for but a moment, uttered to my sister a single word, “Tempted!” and she shoved my bag at me.
To charge straight at them through the doors wielding a camera would be to start on the wrong foot, so to speak, so I circled around the concourse before returning meekly to the spot. I introduced myself (a little too hastily) and asked if I could take a photo of his schnauzer, explaining that I too owned one and I thought they looked so sweet sitting there together. He was only too willing to oblige. Little Indigo though was a bit wary and yapped when I tried to stroke her, but the gentleman handed me a doggie treat which I then offered Indigo, who lapped it up and immediately subsided her growling, allowing me to cradle her muzzle and scratch her ears.
Light was falling and I only shot a few frames, in fact I spent most of the time conversing with the owner, who happens to operate London Walking Tours. A really warm and friendly fellow. I returned to a slightly lukewarm chicken platter but it was worth it!
